Misanthropic Alloy... is a short, free release by The Gray Field Recordings, available from The Umbrella Noize Collective netlabel. An apt choice, for this material focuses slightly more on the ambient and noisy side of the artist than the other two albums.

The opener is a bit subdued, but through its manipulated sounds and abstract voices, it immediately recalls the obscure and unsettling atmospheres that I'm used to from The Gray Field Recordings. "Dissident Angelic Jazz Club" is the only proper noise track, and even then it's a bit unorthodox. It's a combination of distorted and altered brass melodies over a rumbling rhythm loop. Don't play it too loud or you'll go nuts, though I guess that's what many noise fanatics would enjoy. "Labyrinthine Path" is my favourite of these tracks, with its industrial-like samples and eerie little melody. The title track is another excellent dark ambient effort, with a very gloomy foundation and suitable sound embellishments. We finish off with "Our Lead", a rhythmic track with waves of sound, and a bell melody.

This is very good ambient/noise release, though a bit more conventional than the other material. In a way, these tracks are dark and obscure in a simpler way than the material on Hypnagogia, and perhaps more accessible. Not the hidden mystique of abandoned farms, but more of the straightforward darkness of urban recesses and gloomy sewers. In any case, it is an interesting addition to the growing material of this artist, and very much worth your download time.
