Fog & Leaves is one of the first releases by novemthree. It was self-released on CD-R and limited to a hundred copies. It offers a glimpse into the early stages of this calm folk project.

The demo starts off admirably with "Silence", a track that could easily have come off of an album from the early acoustic period of Current 93. It's a brief, melancholic instrumental, with only an acoustic guitar melody. The second track introduces the familiar novemthree style, with guitar picking, half-spoken vocals and soft percussion. A serene track in the vein of those on of my mother's weary wanderings. "Thicket" introduces something not heard yet on newer releases: piano. This song has a relaxed melody, which at the end fades into a sample of a cat's purring. "Floating" is another instrumental, although slightly darker, with layered guitar melody (some manipulation, too) and a bell. The final track reminds me of the work on of my mother's weary wanderings again, because of the calm melody and the lyrics, which introduce the mother theme that would feature on that later release.

This is a nice and good demo from the beginning of this project, and the direction is already quite clear: calm, introspective folk songs. If you enjoy novemthree's current work, it's worth it to try and see if there are any copies left of this demo somewhere.
