But a short while after Funeral Dirge Ov Thee Crowe King, this is the second release by Cloud Temple. This time, it's released on Johnny Miller's own Bickering Bray label, and as a nice double 3".

Musically, this album is different from its predecessor, as can be garnered from the tracklist. The previous album contained two very long and epic psychfolk tracks, whereas this one has many more little songs. Some of them, like the opening track and "Petals of a White Orchid" are calm, summery instrumentals on guitar or dulcimer. Since there are quite a few of these tracks on this album, it is on the whole more relaxed and peaceful than the slightly dark folk of the first album. Other tracks are little songs with original lyrics, like "Black Diamond" and "White Heart Moon". The first has an atmosphere similar to the calm instrumentals, while the latter has a more psychedelic oriental melody on banjo.

The second little CD starts of with another deeper, more psychedelic track. "Blood and Ashes" has faint, reverbing vocals with an acoustic guitar melody, some electric effects, cymbals and bells. "Ma's Blues" is a guitar instrumental, with a distinctly 'American' country bluesy feel. "Witch's Reel" is a surprisingly restrained invocation to the dark goddess Hecate. "Dew Behind the Fox's Ear" recalls the extensive ambient parts from the first album, as it's a long piece of drone, dominated by (bowed?) cymbal sounds. The whole ends with a final little tune on acoustic guitar, recalling the dominantly calm mood of this album.

If you liked the earlier Cloud Temple material, this will definitely appeal to you. There's still the issue of sound and little mistakes here and there, which gives this a rather demo-like feel, but the atmosphere is there. This is very nice psychedelic folk, with touches of americana and droneish sounds, and a project I hope we'll hear more of.
