Tony Wakeford will be a very familiar name for most neofolk lovers. With his legendary project

Recently, he has teamed up with Israeli artist and producer Reeve Malka to forge a new future for the label, and their many musical projects. Guest interviewer Peter Webb interrogates them about music, business and politics, past, present, and future. You can read the interview

The American artist
Rozz Williams is mostly known from
Christian Death, which made an impact on the early eighties with albums like
Only Theatre of Pain. Less known, however, are his many other projects, and his solo project in particular.
The Whorse's Mouth is one of the last albums in his career, and an underappreciated classic. You can read the eclipse review
here.

English singer
Martyn Bates is best known for his work in
Eyeless in Gaza,
Twelve Thousand Days and in various other collaborations, but he also has an extensive solo career.
Mystery Seas is one of his best albums, combining his voice with a dark and mysterious backing of synth and organ music. A masterpiece of experimental vocal music! You can read the eclipse review

In a short article, O.S. explains why he thinks
J.R.R. Tolkien's latest novel,
The Children of Húrin, is definitely worth buying, for both the novice and experienced Tolkien reader. In the second part of the article, which contains spoilers, he compares the story of Túrin to that of two European heroic figures, placing Tolkien in a tradition of heroic storytellers. You can read the article

June 3rd 2007:

We herald in the summer with a sadly underappreciated classic of modern folk. The second album by
Twelve Thousand Days,
The Devil in the Grain, displays the best Alan Trench and Martyn Bates have achieved together thus far, a beautiful synthesis of an original, dark and mystic folk sound, strong lyrics, and excellent vocals. You can read the eclipse review
here.
May 31st 2007:

Together with guitarist Antti Paavilainen, Mikko Pöyhönen is the Finnish neofolk project

Mikko takes care of the vocals, bass and lyrics, and since he was coming to Amsterdam in May, we made an appointment for a live-interview on the spot. We asked him about the ideas behind the project, the debut album, and the future plans of the band. You can read the interview

On his second full-length release,
Erde, Andreas Ritter's
Forseti managed to reach full maturation and achieve near-perfection, with the help of various known guest musicians, such as Kim Larsen, Ian Read, and B'Eirth. Like on Forseti's earlier releases, the sound on this album can be characterized as romantic, melodic, and melancholy. You can read the Eclipse Review
here.

The Finnish Juha Kettunen is the artist behind ambient project

This month, two albums are joined in one eclipse review.
Dead Lovers' Sarabande (Face One & Face Two) are a very original and dark double album about the loss of a lover, executed beautifully, with a broad variation of instruments, and the remarkable singing style of Anna Varney. Vocals, music, artwork and lyrics all cooperate to form the two most original and mournful albums in the history of
Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble Of Shadows. You can read the review

January 6th 2007:
First of all, we wish everyone a happy new year!
We've been busy with the website, and as you might be able to see, we've implemented a new design (with thanks to Joost!). The most important difference is that it is now possible to link directly to pages on our site; you won't end up on the main news page anymore when linking to one of our reviews or articles. The only thing you need to do now is go the page you want to link to, and copy the address from the address bar.
Naturally, we'll try our utmost best to deliver interesting reading to our viewers in 2007! We can look back on a succesful start in 2006, and we'd like to thank everyone who has supported and/or visited us during the past months.
December 24th 2006:

Solstice passed several days ago, and the days are growing long again. We wish everyone warm winter days and a new year filled with fortune!
But, of course, the winter is no fun if you can't share it with others. A couple of artists must have felt the same, and thus there are all sorts of musical goodies to fill the dark days with.
Sean Breadin (
Sedayne), in cooperation with Woven Wheat Whispers, has offered his new CD
horse-head in winterland as a free download, but only until February 1st! You can download it
here.
Rusted Rail has been busy as well. Recently, a free
Agitated Radio Pilot EP (
A Premonition) was put online, but there is also a free mini-compilation for the winter:
seasons greetings from Rusted Rail. Have fun and see you next year!
December 9th 2006:

November 19th 2006:

We have a new article online:
Historiography or Hearsay: Our view of the Vikings
Quietus takes a look at the way our modern view of the Vikings has been shaped by mediaeval chronicle writing, and explains why this view is wrong by looking at pieces of history and archaeology, and modern scientific work on the subject.
We would also like to introduce our new staff member Joost to you. He will be writing articles and reviews for the site. More information about him will be available on the staff page soon.
November 1st 2006:
