Beastmaker - EP.2 / EP.3 (2018, Church)
No frills traditional doom with juicy horror themes. Especially EP.3 has some catchy material. It’s a series of eight $1 EPs, so I’m gonna work my way through all of those for sure.
Slow funk, heavy riff jams, and screaming girls on b l u e__ΔCID’s Real Horrorshow - Act III: Midnight (2016, Sunset Grid). Get into some early Halloween creepy good time atmospheres.
Doom - War Crimes - Inhuman Beings (1988, Peaceville)
I like how thrashy and trashy Doom make their hardcore punk sound on this classic.
it is 2028 & my sister just gave me her 1.5TB of vaporwave - Grid Suburb (or, Albums I Heard While Living Within The Meta-Sprawl, 2028-2031) (2018, DMT Tapes FL).
It’s vaporwave, but super-grainy. I guess it would be if that 1.5 terabytes were stuffed onto VHS tapes and punted across various timelines.
Le Cassette - Left To Our Own Devices (2018, Playmaker).
A time machine to the very best of 80s synthpop. Like Depeche Mode, Talk Talk, and Tears for Fears distilled into a highly potent elixir, laced with a bit of contemporary chiptune and vapor influences. Absolute classic.
Local 86 & 1969年 team up for a very diverse vapor album on Invisible Planets (2018, Business Casual).
Smooth chillwave, sensual vocals, funky beats, and seamless integration of some surprising samples from pop history.
Mega Bunneh - A Collection of Vaporwave Trap Rap, Sample-Based Funk, and Post-Breakup Ballads (2014, Business Casual)
Like it says on the tin. A big collection of funky stuff.
Late nite chillage with some real life #Zeldawave // 近藤 浩治 // OOT (2018, Geometric Lullaby).
Polygon Dream takes Koji Kondo’s classic compositions, broadcasts them over a grainy channel of lo-fi beats and subtle synth embellishments. Familiar but new.
Purple Palm - Ramada Radisson (2018, DMT Tapes FL)
Hope you have a fun stay at the resort, now.
Solange - A Seat at the Table (2016, Columbia)
Late to the party, but at least I arrived.
Traitors Gate - Fallen (2018, No Remorse)
Decades after their formation, UK metallers Traitors Gate drop a solid full length with Fallen. Classic mid-tempo NWOBHM. I will say the album could’ve used some more dynamism, but these old dudes have still got that inner fire.
Wheel in the Sky - Beyond the Pale (2018, The Sign)
This is some fun hard rock with a psychedelic tinge. Think BÖC, but with a slicker, modern production. It’s not too memorable, but a good listen nonetheless.
